Vessel Safety Checks (VSCs) will be conducted at SIYC during the “Cruise to SIYC” beginning at
10 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025. Two Coast Guard Auxiliary Officers will be available to
conduct these checks to help boat owners comply with all the safety equipment regulations that
are needed in case of emergencies while underway on the Chesapeake Bay. This service is free,
and results are not reported to any other local or state entity. It represents good seamanship in
assuring that each boater knows what is required to better enjoy their time safely on their boat.
When completed, boaters will be given a sticker to attach to their boat to show that their boat
has successfully passed its VSC for this year.
To participate in this approximately 20-minute procedure, please sign up on the clipboard sheet
hanging on the wall by the kitchen. Boaters will need to have available their U.S. Coast docu-
mentation or Maryland State boat registration. In addition, boaters need to be prepared to
show their life jackets, flares and other boating safety gear.
Also, if you do not lease a slip at SIYC, please check with a Pier Committee Co-Chair about
where you can tie up your boat during your VSC. If you have any questions, please feel free to
contact me on my phone number or email shown in the Club yearbook.
